Amazon Workers Strike on Black Friday in Germany
Amazon employees in Germany and other European countries
staged strikes and protests on Black Friday. Amazon faces allegations of
employee exploitation and tax evasion. Germany's Verdi union says 2,000 Amazon
employees across the country took part in strikes against the online retailer
on Black Friday yesterday.
Make Amazon Pay
These strikes were carried out under a global campaign
called “Make Amazon Pay”. Organizers of 'Make Amazon Pay', which means get paid
by Amazon, claim total strikes in more than 30 countries, including the US,
under this campaign. And the protest

'Uni Global', which has accused Amazon of exploiting its employees, avoiding

"Amazon employees turned Black Friday into a “Make
Amazon Pay' day," Silk Zimmer, a leader of the Verdi union, said of yesterday's
strike. The strike affected six Amazon fulfillment centers, which are
warehouses, in Germany, according to the Verdi union.
Black Friday
In contrast, an Amazon spokesperson said that the company's
operations continued as normal on Black Friday and that only a few of its
workers participated in the strike. Amazon
also said in a statement that products ordered on Black Friday will be
delivered on time to customers.
Amazon Warehouse
Apart from Germany, more than 200 employees of an Amazon
warehouse also went on strike in the city of Coventry in the United
Kingdom. They demanded that their wages be increased to 15 pounds an hour.
A spokesperson for Amazon in the UK said that at the moment their company pays 11.80
to 13 pounds in the initial period of employment and Next year it will be increased to 12.30 to 13
pounds. There were also reports of strikes and protests against Amazon
yesterday from Spain, Italy, and France.
